My 30gb Zune keeps resetting itself when updating. Help?

I bought a Zune recently used and we can't sync it without updating the firmware. Every time we upgrade the firmware, the Zune resets itself on step 3. It resets maybe a couple times then goes back to square one. The only error message it gives is on the software and it's error code C00D1249. Then the Zune is unreadable. We also reset everything on the Zune but I don't think it erased everything. How can I sync the Zune?
