I carry mace and a pocket knife......am i taking things to seriously?

about 2 months ago i was shopping and a guy jumped out and grabbed me. i tryed punching him but im not that strong so it didnt make a difference. my hands were free but there was nothing i could do. he dragged me into a janitors closet and said he was gonna me. luckily someone seen it and called the security and they got me out safe. so now i carry a bottle of mace and a pocket knife so maybe i can have some source of self defence. but heres the thing. my friends think im taking it to seriously and r afraid im guna hurt someone or myself. but i feel safer with the stuff. do u think i should carry mace and a pocket knife or is it stupid?
