Advice on Disneyland & Universal Studios, Hollywood?

I'm planning to take my family to Universal Studios & Disneyland in Hollywood/Anaheim this year and I have never been to either of them before. Does anyone have any general advice or tips for me that can make my trip more enjoyable?? Thanks in advance!!!
