How do I get my Internet back to my pc? Urgent.?

Ok, so i have a wireless router in the basement of my home... And a MacBook, iPad, and a macintosh desktop ( all with working Internet connection.) well, there is a pc in my bedroom that had no adapter, so no Internet connection went to it... So, i went to radio shack and bought a 70 dollar usp adapter from net gear. When I plug in the adapter and go to connect to a wireless connection, the recommended connection is not there.( its fair point, btw.) there is this one connection that is not recommended, but has 5 bars that pops up. I click on it,and it does not connect. Windows doesn't suggest anything to why it doesn't connect. One day, my recommended connection popped up, so I called fair point to get the pword... They said that we didn't have a account with them, which we do. Btw, my router is not one of those routers where you can plug in an adapter or flash drive. I don't even know if my computer knows that I have a router. So, i don't know much about computers... Somebody please help? How do i get internet back?
